Guillermo Aldana Ugarte

Born on December 2, 1971 and Founder Partner at Aldana Ugarte Abogados, S.C. (2021-). With solid experience in civil and commercial proceedings and alternative dispute resolution. With expertise in arbitral, institutional, and Ad hoc procedures in regards domestic and foreign companies, and as Counsel and Arbitrator (sole Arbitrator, Co-arbitrator, and Emergency Arbitrator). Basham, Ringe y Correa, S.C. Partner, (2015-2020), Associate (since 2005), litigation and arbitration practice at the Querétaro Office.

Before joining Basham, Ringe y Correa, S.C., Mr. Aldana worked as Senior Associate at Santamarina y Steta, S.C., (2000-2004) and Hegewisch Abogados, S.C., (2000) in civil, commercial, and arbitration practice. Has also held the position as Legal Manager of media, sports, and entertainment at TV Azteca S.A. de C.V., (1999) and worked as Paralegal in corporate and civil practice at Basham, Ringe y Correa (1994-1998).

Is Speaker at several corporate and professional fora in México and abroad; has drawn up bills drafts and written several articles on dispute prevention and resolution.

Currently, holds the position as Head of Arbitration Bajío Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Mexican member of the ICC World Arbitration Commission (2022-2024). Member of the London Court of International Arbitration, Mexican Bar Association, Club Español del Arbitraje, the Latin American Arbitration Association and Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Concursal.

Mr. Aldana has been recognized as “Recommended Lawyer” by Legal 500 and is ranked as Best Lawyer 2020 in mediation and arbitration practice.

Holds a master’s degree in dispute prevention and resolution from the University of Westminster, London, United Kingdom (2010), a master’s degree in corporate law from Universidad Anáhuac (2008), a major in civil and commercial procedure from Universidad Panamericana (2005), a major in obligations and contracts from Escuela Libre de Derecho (1999), and undergraduate studies in law from Universidad La Salle (1995).

Has completed professional development studies and has obtained several diplomas in contracts from Universidad Anáhuac, Querétaro (2011), Arbitration ICC in the Stock Market, London, United Kingdom (2009), Georgetown University Summer School, United States of America (2004-2005), international commercial arbitration from Escuela Libre de Derecho (2000), and defenses and dispute resolution from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (1999).

Is Professor of the undergraduate program at the Universidad Anáhuac Querétaro on introduction to obligations law and comparative law and master’s programs on commercial insolvency proceedings; master’s programs at the Universidad Panamericana, Aguascalientes and Guadalajara, on alternative dispute resolution; Universidad Marista de Mérida on commercial insolvency proceedings.

Has taught proceedings theory at a bachelor´s level at the Universidad Iberoamericana (2004) in Mexico City and postgraduate programs at Universidad de Estudios de Postgrado en Derecho (2003). Former lecturer for the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice and the Federal Counsel of the Mexican Judiciary Branch.
